The Plaza Nueva Project came out of the long-term fire recovery planning sessions held in Mora County last year.

The goal of the Plaza Nueva Project is to create communal long-term benefits by revitalizing the heart of Mora.

Mora’s original plaza was destroyed in 1847 by U.S. troops during the Second Battle of Mora, a part of the widespread insurgency against United States occupation known as the “Taos Revolt.”

With the support from the HHS grant, VC-CV is planning two community engagement sessions on May 17 and 18, 2024 to gather ideas about the project – where Plaza Nueva should be located, what it should include, and how it should look.

The grant enables Collaborative Visions of Mora to involve community members, local businesses, and other stakeholders in the planning process to ensure that the Plaza Nueva Project aligns with the unique needs and aspirations of Mora.

The feasibility study, supported by the HHS grant, will serve as a key milestone in advancing this community-driven initiative.
