Well, What is a Charette?

A design charrette is a collaborative meeting where people from different backgrounds and disciplines work together to develop a design or vision for a project.

In the case of the Mora Plaza Nueva Charette scheduled for Saturday, its is a gathering of community stakeholders to assess our progress, establish priorities, and plan the next steps. Sign up here to join us this Saturday.

How this Charette Works

First we’ll talk about who has been working on the project and how we’ve gotten to where we are now. Then, we’ll break into three groups to workshop planning, design, and implementation priorities. Each group will use community input gathered during the past year as their starting points.

Workgroup 1 – Design

The design workgroup discuss designs of buildings, landscape, and other outdoor elements. They will establish design parameters that best fit the community, the culture, and the climate.

Workgroup 2 – Facilities and Services

This group looks at the community’s gaps in facilities – buildings, businesses, public spaces, housing – and services that may be addressed by recreating a community plaza. Their goal is to establish priorities – which projects are most important, which can be most easily implemented, which are long-term goals.

Workgroup 3 – Mora Plaza District and Strategic Planning

The idea of creating a Mora Plaza District that incorporates the historic plaza area as a district and what that might mean.

Then What

We’ll be compiling all the info we’ve gathered in the past year and begin drafting a pla. We’ll be looking for more input and guidance from the community throughout this process. So, be on the lookout for more opportunities to become involved!
